Stefano Gatto (Turin, 1962), has degrees in Economics (Bocconi University, Milan) and History (UK). Ha is also Master in International Relations (Madrid) and European Law (Luxembourg). A multidisciplinary and totally pan – European profile not that usual before Erasmus times.
EU diplomat, he has been working at the European Commission from 1993 to 2009 and at the EEAS (European Union External Action Service, the European diplomacy) since its formation in 2009.
He has been living in Spain, which is his second homeland, and posted for the EU in Belgium, Luxembourg, Brazil, India and El Salvador, where he has been heading the EU Delegation between 2009 and 2013. He has then been Deputy Head of Mission for the EU in Pakistan between 2014 and 2016. Between September 2016 and August 2020 he was Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Guatemala.
